calming the colicky baby
it's as we feared. eliana has taken after her brother in developing colic.
"Baby colic is a condition in which an otherwise healthy baby cries or screams frequently and for extended periods without any discernible reason. The condition typically appears within the first three weeks of life and almost invariably disappears, often very suddenly, before the baby is three to four months old. Having ruled out other causes of crying, a common rule of thumb is to consider a baby "colicky" if he or she cries intensely more than three days a week, for more than three hours, for more than three weeks in a month."
yep, she's been screaming for hours for the past few days, accompanied by a lot of explosive bowel movements and passing of gas. inconsolable is the right word, as her crying turns into screaming and nothing i do seems to ease it. sometimes walking around with her helps a little, but more often than not it doesn't. on a positive note, the colic seems to pass once night falls, so she does sleep quite ok at night, which is great for mama too.
Jireh's colic passed at around 6 weeks, so am praying that Eliana's does so sooner. After all, girls are supposed to develop faster than boys right? :P
well, there's not much we can do about it except pray, and try to keep sane with all the incessant crying.
