what a dive!

NOTE: posting this on behalf of josiah, who's in perhentian right now getting some divemaster experience, so the facts may not be that accurate

went out for a night dive yesterday as the seas seemed calm enough when we left. only 4 divers went down (sebastian, his gf, the DMT may and one customer). i stayed on the boat with botak - the young but serious boatman. however, soon after they went into the water, it started pouring and the seas got very choppy. so botak n i decided to do an emergency recall - we had earlier agreed that the signal would be to rev the boat engine 3 times. after a short while, the divers surfaced. but we had a problem. the boat wouldn't start. oops. n the boat was being swept toward the rocks. the divers too were being tossed around by the waves. after some harrowing minutes, botak discovered what was wrong with the engine, n got the boat started. we collected the divers and got them back safely. later sebastian told me that in such situations, i should throw the anchor overboard to ensure that the boat doesn't drift off. one new lesson learnt.
